The quintet THE BRAHMANKIND unleashed a phenomenal prog/alt/rock set for us to consume. Oh man, what a set it was. They are one of those bands that are hard to hold down in any genre, though there was proggy goodness throughout their set. A little rock here, some funk there, with each song offering something unique. Never a dull moment here.
There was undoubtedly a cohesive thread throughout their songs that tied it all together, a certain vibe they harnessed really well. More than a few times, I was reminded of KING GIZZARD in guitar tones, song structure, and a remarkable willingness to do the unexpected. Case in point, near the end, the bassist wandered over from their side to the mic, where they proceeded to fucking scream into it. I have repeatedly expressed my love for a good scream, and by god, did I get a great one here.
To be clear, it was all clean vocals with stellar harmonies up to this point. No hint of that scream, which anyone watching me, would have seen my jaw on the floor, and my smile reached my eyes when that sucker unleashed. Just god damn gorgeous. Outstanding guitar work from both guitarists to match the incredible bass with all their funky riffs, though the keyboard gave them their prog sound most of all. Reminiscent of old-school 60s/70s prog-rock groups, they used a beautiful organ sound that was so damn spot-on for the vibe. Wonderful.
