The Brahmankind Releases Debut EP Simulating
A Collection of Twisted Tales Told Through Art Rock, Out Now
In their debut EP Simulating, The Brahmankind’s uncategorizable sound takes listeners through a collision of satire, horror, psychedelia, and surreal storytelling, where childishness and monumentality, awkward honesty and absurdity, saints and perverts meet. Built into a musical book of short stories, Simulating combines fragments of real-life events with fairy tales for adults.
From odd time signatures and modes, through colourful instrumentation, to uncommon structures and surprises, four songs form a small art-rock opera, where folklore and punk rock meet synthesizers and classical influences; a dark, sensitive blues builds to a monumental waltz; industrial textures merge with improvisational freedom; futuristic folk unfolds into a suite of intimacy and madness.
Simulating is a journey dedicated to every adult child who still wonders at a world that never quite made sense.
About The Brahmankind
The Brahmankind is an international art-rock band based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Their music is driven by contrast, where the unexpected and odd feel natural, beauty complements ugliness, tradition meets experimentation, and the audience is immersed in an atmosphere that feels both out of this world and deeply within.
Drawing from diverse musical languages across time and place, the band embraces Balkan and Slavic bashavel and folkloric influences, modes and ornamentation evoking the spirit of ancient festivals, the craftsmanship of classical composition, theatrical storytelling, and improvisational expression.
Thematically, their music is sometimes deeper, sometimes satiric, mostly satiric. Dark humour, paradox, laughter through tears, real-life stories flip into fantasies and fantasies flip into the real world. It opens doors for a psychological odyssey of characters and the absurdity of life, where the villains talk about their joys and how they make the world a better place, and goodies talk about what they’re ashamed of; they talk about what we don’t talk about - their madness, how they’ll never grow up.
